Rhett is definitely the king of the castle here at Kestrel Farms. He is a strong, agile dog with incredible prey drive and enviable trainability. Rhett is a natural athlete and always eager to please. He will retrieve until you just cannot throw one more bumper.
He showed a bit as a puppy, winning his class, and when he was ready, went out with Erik Strickland and finished so fast it almost didn’t last long enough to enjoy! He became an AKC Champion in two weeks with 4 majors, two of which were Specialty Show wins. I decided to send him out to the conformation ring again and he earned his Grand Championship with Aaron Wilkerson in record time with 4 majors, and a Sporting Group 4. You can view his point progression record here here. He has earned a total of 54 awards in 5 states with a very limited time in the ring.
Rhett’s next goal was a Junior Hunter title. I sent Rhett to Rich Louter at Louter Creek Retrievers and Gun Dogs . Rich had met Rhett at a workshop and felt he had natural talent. He was right, as after a month of training, Rich was ready to enter him in up upcoming hunt tests, all of which Rhett passed with flying colors earning his JH title! After coming home, I continued to enter Rhett in JH tests putting another 5 passes on his record. I did this both for my experience and his continuous training at different venues. Besides that, we both love it!
Rhett has a great work ethic and is a wonderful dog to have at your side. He is comfortable and collected at a hunt test, conformation ring, left alone in the house or a hotel room or flopped down on the sidewalk in a busy town while my daughter eats an ice cream cone. I like to think of him as bomb proof while at the same time ready to work at every opportunity.
Rhett is now home and we continue to take obedience classes and work towards our next goal of WC/WX and the bigger leap to Senior Hunter and someday, a Versatility title. He will also go back to the conformation ring as a mature dog when the time is ready.
Rhett’s physical attributes include a rock solid top line, correct tail set, ‘just right’ coat- abundant yet not overwhelming, and correct wash and wear texture. He has complete dentition, a beautiful bite, and a pleasing eye all placed in a masculine headpiece that is soft and not harsh. His temperament is stellar- he gets along with all: dogs, cats, cows, horses, children, men, women.
His pedigree holds deep clearances, deep titles in all venues, and an enviable longevity in this breed. His hips are OFA excellent and elbows, heart and eyes normal. Rhett is cleared genetically for degenerate myopathy and the 3 types of retinal degeneration affecting Golden Retrievers and has his DNA profile documented. He is available to approved bitches live cover, fresh chilled and frozen.
Rhett is a proven sire with 3/3 breedings leading to litters of 5(AI), 10 pups (AI) and 9 pups (natural breeding). He has several planned litters to amazing dogs in near future.
